Color and light

Baltimore Maternity Photographer

I love it when a family challenges me with something new.

When this gorgeous mama-to-be told me that she’d bring some traditional clothing options for her maternity session, I had no idea what to expect.  As it turns out, she wasn’t so sure herself either!  That’s because her husband ended up making the final choice, choosing the Salwar kameez, dupatta, and kameez (or kurta) that he particularly liked and remembered from her baby shower month earlier.  As it turns out, he has a great eye for details like that and I was in for a treat!

Many of my maternity sessions focus on light, flowing, feminine images. I like to use light to highlight, and shadow to sculpt and define. Lately I’ve been playing with more drama and color, just to keep challenging myself as a visual artist; so this couple arrived at just the right time for me too!  I was able to fit in some of my typical light and airy images AND play with more drama and light too.

What do you think?  Which style is your preference?

  • […] Maternity portraits are often best done during your last trimester and we think that every mama should have at least one professional portrait created during this time in their life. Beyond this, there are really no other “rules”.   Maternity sessions can be photographed in a variety of different styles; they can be photographed in a casual style indoors or out, and they can be photographed in a classic style in studio (like this session here), or in a classic style outdoors, which can add drama and interest because of the setting.  We can include more drama and intimacy, or color and tradition.
